Our Founder
In September 1943, at the age of 30, Mr Mohan T Advani founded Blue Star Engineering Company with just two employees and a modest capital of two thousand rupees. Amid the turmoil of World War II, it was his unwavering confidence and ambition that propelled him through adversity. Seeing opportunity where others saw difficulty, he built a company that was progressive and adaptable.
To commemorate his birth centenary on November 11, 2012, a pictorial tribute titled Remembering Mohan T Advani:
The Man and His Legacy was published. This memoir encapsulates his life, showcasing the stories and experiences of those who were touched by his leadership and character. His impact endures, and his remarkable journey continues to inspire.

History of Blue Star
1943
Founded by Mohan T Advani, Blue Star initially specialised in the reconditioning of Air Conditioners and Refrigerators.
1943-46
- Blue Star formed its first foreign association by becoming Worthington's India-based partner.
- Blue Star became the sole agency for US-based Melchoir Armstrong Dessau Company.
- We ventured into Ice Candy Machines, Bottle Coolers, Central Air Conditioning, and Water Coolers.
1949
- Blue Star transitioned to Blue Star Engineering Company Private Limited.
1960
- We surpassed 1000 employees and went public in 1969 to become Blue Star Limited.
1970
Blue Star became the all-India distributor for Hewlett-Packard products.
We executed prestigious projects, reaching $1.22m in revenue.
1978
Blue Star established a joint venture with Al Shirawi in Dubai, marking the first step in our global expansion.
Blue Star executed noteworthy projects in Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.
We launched a dedicated Industrial Division, offering comprehensive Air Conditioning solutions and undertaking complex turnkey projects.
1984
- Leadership transitioned to Ashok M Advani and Suneel M Advani.
1990
- Blue Star enhanced existing business competencies and re-engineered products to align with the growing opportunities of economic liberalisation.
1997
- We set up an advanced manufacturing facility at Dadra, India, and strengthened the dealer network.
2000
Blue Star established Blue Star Infotech Ltd.
We began exporting Air Conditioning products from our Dadra factory, India.
Blue Star developed a new corporate vision: 'To deliver a world-class customer experience.
2002-03
Blue Star crossed the $0.073bn milestone.
We nearly doubled our revenue to $0.144bn by 2005-06.
2008
Blue Star ventured into the electrical contracting business.
We acquired Naseer Electricals Private Limited.
2010
- Blue Star acquired D S Gupta Construction Private Limited, a leading firm in plumbing and firefighting.
2011-15
Blue Star focused on the residential segment, launching contemporary Air Conditioners.
We achieved significant growth in Room Air Conditioner sales.
2015
Blue Star crossed the $0.366bn revenue milestone.
We transferred the PE&IS business to a separate subsidiary, Blue Star Engineering & Electronics.
Blue Star explored global markets and expanded its Room Air Conditioner sales.
2017
Blue Star pioneered Precision Inverter Air Conditioners.
We formed a wholly owned subsidiary, Blue Star International FZCO.
2018
We celebrated our Platinum Jubilee Year.
Blue Star achieved $0.562bn in annual revenue.
2019
- We appointed Indian cricketer Virat Kohli as our brand ambassador.
2020
- Blue Star won 'The Best Governed Company' award at the '19th ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance’.
2021
- We launched a new affordable range of Split Air Conditioners for the mass market.
2022
Record revenue and profits reported in Q4 FY22.
We forayed into the Water Projects Business.
We inaugurated the Customer Experience Centre and Innovation Centre in Thane, India.
We inaugurated a Customer Experience Centre for Non-Destructive Testing Systems.
2023
Blue Star Climatech Ltd. began commercial production at its new plant in Sri City, India.
Ashok M Advani, Chairman Emeritus and Promoter of Blue Star Limited, offered a grant totalling $0.012bn to the Company.
Blue Star delivered exceptional financial results in FY23.
Total Income grew 31.3%: $0.95bn and Operating Profit grew 42.2%: $0.060bn.
Blue Star raised $0.122bn through Qualified Institutional Placements to fund its growth plans.
2024
Vir S Advani takes over the reins of the Company, as Chairman and Managing Director, after over two decades of guiding the Company in various leadership roles including as Managing Director since 2016 and Vice Chairman & Managing Director since 2019.
